The FROGRS Shuck and Share program has ended due to changes in way shoreline restorations are now being accomplished.
This project was a collaborative effort between the Marine Discovery Center (MDC) in New Smyrna Beach, Gamble Rogers State Park in Flagler Beach, and participating restaurants in Flagler County. Recycled oyster shells have been used for shoreline restoration and stabilization at North Peninsula State Park & Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area instead of contributing to landfill growth.

Shuck and Share volunteers picked up oyster shells from participating restaurants three times a week, as well as creating oyster shell bags, called gabions, with the recycled shell.
Participating Restaurants
Many thanks to these local Flagler Beach restaurants:
The Anchor, Flagler Fish Company, The Golden Lion Café
and Next Door Beach Bistro for supporting the Shuck and Share program
through the donation of oyster shell these many years.

In just one two-year period the Shuck and Share program recycled over 170,000 pounds of oyster shells.
Most of these recycled shells have been placed back into the environment in the form of oyster bags or oyster mats in restoration projects from Fernandina Beach to the Indian River Lagoon.
